Many people may have heard of NAD as a crucial factor that helps us live longer, but not everyone understands how NAD functions in the body and why, as we age, the levels of NAD in our body continuously decrease, affecting cell energy and the aging process.

Dr. Narinthorn Surasinthan from The Longevist Clinic explains that NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a substance found at the cellular level and plays a vital role in making the mitochondria, or the cell's energy factories, work more efficiently. Additionally, NAD has the ability to activate the Longevity Gene through the mechanism of Sirtuins, which helps keep the body strong and slows down cell degeneration.

However, the main issue is that as we age, the levels of NAD in our body gradually decline, just like the number of mitochondria. This leads to a loss of energy, cellular degradation, and an accelerated aging process, resulting in age-related health problems.

In recent years, scientists have started focusing on NMN (Nicotinamide Mononucleotide), a precursor to NAD that can help boost NAD levels in the body. One of the scientists who has extensively studied NAD and NMN is Professor David Sinclair from Harvard University, the author of the book Lifespan.

Professor Sinclair conducted experiments on mice, providing them with regular doses of NMN, and found that the mice that received NMN lived 25% longer than the group that did not. Moreover, not only did the mice live longer, but they also had more energy, improved metabolism, and appeared younger than the age-matched control group. These findings sparked significant interest in the scientific community about NMN's potential in slowing down aging in humans.

Based on research and experiments, Dr. Narinthorn suggests that NMN supplementation can be done through oral intake, with studies showing that NMN taken orally can increase NAD levels in the blood by 2-3 times. The recommended dosage for general individuals is 500 mg per day, and for older individuals or those feeling fatigued, 1,000 mg per day.

While many may question the use of NAD through intravenous injections, most studies indicate that oral NMN provides similar results and can be absorbed efficiently by the body without the need for injections.

For those wondering if NMN is suitable for them, Dr. Narinthorn says that NMN can help with aging, boost energy, and may be beneficial for those looking to improve their overall cellular health. In the next installment, he will discuss how NMN can benefit certain diseases or health conditions and who should consider using NMN.

Although research on NMN in humans is still ongoing, animal studies and preliminary research indicate its potential to slow aging, increase energy, and enhance overall health.
